Phone Numbers to have 11 digits from Jan 2010

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), GoI plans to increase the digits for both fixed-line and mobile phone numbers to 11. The implementation for mobile phones would be as early as January, 2010. DoT had unveiled a 30-year numbering plan in 2003, but it is likely that it will run out of numbers by August 2009. This has force the authority to review its policy and come up with a revised long-term strategy.
