Vinyl siding comes in a variety of shapes, colors, textures, creating a wide array of looks for different houses.
It is manufactured primarily with durable polyvinyl chloride in several different profiles, including single, double, triple, vertical,
and Dutch lap. Common hand tools, such as a hammer, finetooth saw, square, chalkline, level, and tape
measure, are needed for proper installation. Safety glasses are recommended for eye protection. Vinyl siding should
never be applied directly to studs without sheathing. As an alternative, installation of specific types of contoured foam
underlayments for various styles of vinyl siding are available. Some manufacturers of vinyl siding do not recommend
the use of drop-in backers with certain vinyl siding configurations.
