Finally, two Linux groups merging to offer a better unified face to real competition!
I remembered Scott McNealy's words during Sun Developer Conference back in 2002 in Bangalore. His words were "Do not develop for any OS, not even for Solaris, develop on Java so that your investment is safe on any OS" Only visionaries dare to say this at the cost of their own business interest (Solaris).
After having heard of so many forks, the announcement of Linux groups merging is a breeze for me as I am always against forks that could excite a bunch of geeks but may give nightmares to end users of such offerings.
The fact that Linux groups had forgotten their main competition and were busy with their own internal conflicts spending unproductive hours arguing who is better among themselves had disturbed me for long since I became an Open Source admirer.
It also proves that despite being lured of developing on other technologies Samooha chose the right path of developing on Java so that the end users can use it on any platform or operating system of their choice as the analyst at Forrester puts it rightly in the article. Thank you, Scott for the advice at SDC!
Looks like great future ahead for Unified Linux with Samooha-S as a topping! More over with OpenSolaris now around, Samooha-S serves as topping for anything that is Open Source or even proprietary with maximum downloads till date for Windows!!

Its truly awesome to see the
Its truly awesome to see the too giant organizations kiss and make-up. But will this have any implications on licensing issues ?
With the ongoing debate about GPLv2 and GPLv3, does this merger have ANY effect whatsoever on the GPL licenses or is that a different war all together ?
It looks like a different war altogether
GPL debate looks like a different aspect altogether. For the time being the move is a starter for things to consolidate. Enough of distros that does more harm to Linux than it offers choice to end users. It has become like Indian Democracy, too many parties :-)
Don't even bother comparing
Heheheh !!
I'm pretty sure the top executives of OSDL and FSF are not involved in court cases with allegations ranging from Murder, Rape, Embezzelment .
Republic Day fever!!
The comparison was actually an exaggeration influenced by the Republic Day :-)
