Manthan-AIF Award is a first of its kind initiative in India to recognize the best practices in e-Content and Creativity. It www.manthanaward.org was launched on 10th October 2004, by Digital Empowerment Foundation in partnership with World Summit Award and American India Foundation.
The Manthan-AIF Award winners for the year 2004-05 were awarded on 23rd July, 2005 at India International Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi in a one day Manthan-AIF Award gala cum conference on e-Content and Sustainability organized by Digital Empowerment Foundation. The Conference cum award gala was attended by over 150 people from various walks of life and came from different regions and background and represented various States across the length and breadth of the country.
Emphasizing on the importance of e-Content & Creativity for and by the grassroots people, the Manthan Award 2005 recognized and awarded 27 initiatives out of 104 nominations received for the following 8 categories.

Categories for Manthan-AIF Award 2006 [4 New categories were added]
Digital Empowerment Foundation, a Delhi based not-for-profit organization was registered on December 2002, under the "Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860" to find solutions to bridge the digital divide. With no political affiliations, it was founded by Osama Manzar to uplift the downtrodden and to create economic and commercial viability using Information Communication and Technology as means. It was actively started in the year 2003 after the founder director left his software company to seriously pursue the aims and objectives of Digital Empowerment Foundation.
Digital Empowerment Foundation, in partnership with World Summit Award and American India Foundation, invites nominations for this year’s Manthan Award for best ICT practices and innovations under fifteen different categories. Deadline for submitting names is July 31, 2009.
The last date for sending the nominations along with the completed form is 31 July 2009.

Every year, for celebrating the Manthan Award Gala, Digital Empowerment Foundation organises elaborate event where all the nominees and partners of the award and DEF could find an opportunity to showcase their products and services, speak their mind through the summit and conference, and cheer the awardees during the grand gala.
