"Innovations 2007" is an event that has been organized by the Pune Chapters of IIT Bombay Alumni Association and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE). The concept of such an event is not new. what is unique about Innovations 2007 is the thinking behind organizing it. This is not an event where there would be awards announced at the end of the day. Neither is there any grading going to be given among the innovations.
It is an event where 16 selected innovations would be showcased in front of a select audience. There are the 16 selected critically by a panel of juries out of the 145 nominations received as a response to our announcement. Here I would not like to forget to thank you all for the invaluable coverage provided by the press. The organizers would like to play the role of a catalyst in the process of si\ome of there innovations booming into large business.
This idea was immediately upheld by Anand Deshpande of Persistent Systems who readily agreed to sponsor this years event. The idea started gaining momentum. The jewel in the crown was the fact that none other than Desh Deshpande (Gururaj Deshpande) agreed to come all the way and give the key note address. He said, "Innovations is at the heart of the new emerging global economy. There is a lot of inherent innovation and entrepreneurship in India. I am pleased and am sure that events like this will celebrate and promite much needed innovations in India."
Shridhar Shukla, President IIT Bombay Alumni Association, Pune Chapter said,"We are offering you this technology show, which we plan to make an annual happening, to bring out the ideas that are already in practice. We have covered almost all the sectors. Over the years we would like to reach out to a large geographical domain and keep placing the best before you."
Pratima Kirloskar, President TIE said, "The purpose of this venture is to enable large industries to look at these innovators to solve their problems as outsiders as not every industry can have a well equipped R&D. We are serving as an interface between innovators and large organizations and hope to plug in the gaps to provide a smoother road to development."
