FossMeet @ NITC 2008

FOSSMeet @ NITC is jointly organised by NIT Calicut Student Branches of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), CSI (Computer Society of India), CSEA (Computer Science and Engineering Association) and GLUGC(GNU/Linux Users Group Calicut). That just means that most of the volunteers and core team members belongs to one of the organizations. It is a community event and anyone who wants to be a part of it is welcome.

Though just four years old, the Meet has grown in magnitude, in terms of speakers, delegates, number of days, outreach and budget over each successive year. The name of the meet has gone through annual modifications, due to various reasons.

FOSSDev is an year long (Jan '08 to FOSSMeet@NITC '09) contest which aims at promoting contributions to FOSS projects. The participants are not expected to have prior experience at all.
Each team will be assigned a mentor who will guide them starting from the basics. Total prize money amounts to Rs. 23,500 (will increase, subjected to sponsorships).

FOSSMeet @ NITC 2008 is the fourth edition of this event, and is scheduled to be held from 4th - 6th April 2008. This year, we have initiated FOSSDev, a year longcompetition to encourage student contribution to FOSS projects. The FOSSMeet @ NITC team is ever more committed to maintaining the spirit of the event, of catering to a wide variety of audience collegeand school students, faculty and professionals, and of spreading the message about the use and advantages of Free and Open Source Software.

  • Python Workshop: Parthan SR, Vivek Khurana
  • Paul W. Frields, the Fedora Project Leader and the chairman of the Fedora Project Board, will be addressing the delegates via Videoconference. The talk is scheduled at 7.30 PM on 5th April.

On-site registration

  • Rs. 200 for NITC Students
  • Rs. 300 for external participants

The registration amount includes a delegates kit, and food & refreshments during the event. Accommodation will be provided at a nominal extra charge.
