Why
The war for talent has become a significant boardroom issue. A recent senior executive survey conducted by McKinsey identified the ‘high cost / low availability of talent’ as one of the most important potential constraints on future growth.
However, attracting talent remains only half the battle. Another recent survey among multi-national companies found that employee satisfaction levels tend to decline sharply between 6 to 18 months, with around 20% leaving to join other companies within 2 years of being recruited.
As competition for talent heats up, the ability to retain key talent becomes one of the tools for gaining competitive advantage. Corporate skills help attract the right kind of talent, but retaining talent is the lead indicator for the strength of the corporate identity.
