NASSCOM takes pride to announce its fifth annual NASSCOM HR Summit 2008. Asia’s most prestigious HR conference of the IT-BPO industry, will take place from 3-4 July 2008 in Chennai at Hotel Le Royal Meridien. The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Managing Change’.

Change is the name of the game in India today. The signs of change are everywhere—within different industry verticals, within organizations and within the workforce that drives these enterprises. The Indian IT-BPO sector too has been riding the wave of change since 2002, following the dot com bust, and measuring its recovery in impressive growth rates, massive recruitment by the industry, expansion in the skilled talent pool and focus on enhancing the productivity and efficiency of employees.

Today, however, industry is facing a challenging environment on account of the strengthening rupee coupled with the looming recession in the US. Clearly, 2008 is going to be a challenging period for the Indian IT-BPO sector, a time when it will need to reinvent itself and use the power of its people to emerge stronger. People, of course remain at the core of the Indian IT-BPO industry, which is why NASSCOM’s HR Summit 2008 will focus exclusively on workforce related issues and concerns.

The conclave will deliberate on how people within the industry can be managed during this period of maturity, consolidation and change and how HR can emerge as a change agent. Speakers and panellists will discuss how HR has to move beyond recruitment and attrition issues, deal with the pain points and evolve a more meaningful role for itself within the organization. They will share insights on how HR can help build skill sets in niche services, develop leadership competencies and expand the pool of talent in companies.

It is these and other matters that will find the spotlight at the NASSCOM conference, one of the largest congregations of HR professionals, decision makers and academicians. CEOs, for instance, will talk about change from the perspective of customer engagements, processes and geographic expansion.

Taking a holistic view of HR

The NASSCOM HR Summit 2008 will provide a platform for examining the following key issues:

  • The paradigm shift in the business scenario

  • The role HR can play in creating a mind set about Innovation and translating IP into a commercial resource for the company

  • Next Generation HR practices, including recruitment strategies that can enable organizations to source global class talent and secure their future

  • The importance of social capital (power of networking and building social relationships) in the life of employees and the part it can play in career and leadership building

  • How HR’s role is evolving and how it needs to focus on Return on Intangibles (RoI), to measure the value that is being created by the culture of the organization, a shared mind set, quality of leaders, competency and leadership development programs, collaboration within and beyond the company and employer branding

  • Workforce dynamics and how HR can manage diversity—a multi-cultural, multi-national, and gender inclusive environment

  • The growing importance of building middle management capabilities in the global sourcing industry

  • Nurturing leadership in India’s Tier II and III cities

The NASSCOM HR Summit, with its eclectic yet holistic range of sessions and panel discussions will take a keen look at the changing role of HR and the crucial part it can play in the organization of the future.
