NASSCOM Announces Roadmap for FY 2009

NASSCOM, the premier trade body representing the Indian IT-BPO
industry, today announced its roadmap for FY 2009 with key focus areas
outlined. These were shared at a press conference addressed by the
recently appointed Chairman - Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman - Pramod
Bhasin and NASSCOM President, Som Mittal.

IT-BPO revenue to reach $75 bn target: Nasscom

Brushing aside fears that the rising rupee could dent a hole in the growth of Indian software industry, the sector is set to achieve a healthy 33 percent growth in the fiscal year 2008.

The industry is also on fast-track to achieve the target of $75 billion in overall software and services revenues by 2010, Nasscom, an umbrella body of the Indian IT industry, said here Monday.

Releasing the Strategic Review for 2008, Nasscom Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan said despite heavy pressures, the industry continues to perform very well and managed to achieve its stretched growth targets year after year.

The Computer Arrives

The first digital computer comes to India estd. 1956, as the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata installs a Hollerith Electronic Computer, HEC-2M, brought from England. Initially, it handled a number of scientific problems from all across the country, including trajectory analysis for artillery cannons for the Defense. It was, in fact, the first computer brought to Asia, outside of Japan.

 

NASSCOM to conduct job fair in AP

NASSCOM today said that it would hold a job fair on December 15 and 17 in Hyderabad for candidates who appeared for the NAC test held on September 30.

“We have received a very encouraging response from Andhra Pradesh with 2000 students registering for the NAC test. There is a vast untapped potential in India waiting to be capitalized by the IT-BPO companies and the excellent feedback to the test is a strong indicator to it,” said Sangeeta Gupta, vice president, NASSCOM.
