eEye Digital Security said today that it's found the first Office 2007 remote code vulnerability and has alerted Microsoft's bug team.

The terse warning posted to eEye's Upcoming Advisories site tags Publisher 2007, the desktop and Web publishing program included with some editions of Office, as the flawed application. "A remotely exploitable flaw exists within Publisher 2007 that allows arbitrary code to be executed in the context of the logged in user," the alert read. eEye rated the vulnerability as "high," and reported it to Microsoft a week ago.

The idea appeared Friday on a company-hosted blog called Dell Idea Storm. CEO Michael Dell unveiled the blog Feb. 16 as part of his effort to reinvigorate the struggling company. Dell said he hoped to use the blog to collect users' feedback and improve customer service.

The vendor argues that the capacity of these kind of drives is now so high that they can replace the need for 3.5-inch desktop PC hard drives, which traditionally have offered greater storage capabilities.

Fujitsu will utilize perpendicular recording to achieve the new level of 300GB. Its 2.5-inch drive, called the MHX2300BT, is scheduled for release in February 2007.

Intel has confirmed plans to ship its next-generation wireless chips ahead of its previous schedule for bringing 802.11n wireless to its Centrino program.

The Next-Gen Wireless-N product will appear in notebooks from companies such as Acer, Gateway and Toshiba by the end of this month, Dave Hofer, director of wireless marketing for the company, said Tuesday.

The new Wi-Fi chip is based on the draft 802.11n wireless standard, which is on track to be finalized later this year. It will become the newest piece of Intel's Centrino package of chips, which includes the Core 2 Duo processor, a mobile chipset and a wireless chip.

IBM has opened the public beta program for the next version of its Informix database server and announced plans for a bundled Linux package for smaller businesses.

The upgrade to IBM's Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) is code-named Cheetah. The final version is due out sometime later this year and will offer new features for application developers, better support for hierarchical data structures and improved query capabilities across multiple instances of the database, IBM announced Thursday.
