With rapid application development platforms coming to surface along with application development frameworks, it is geting difficult to isolate platforms from frameworks.
Platforms and frameworks share some common technical solution components yet they are different. The main diference that I think and I may be 100% wrong, is that frameworks are developed on specific platforms say for example application development framework are developed on O/s platforms. And then product versioning goes on after launch to make the framewoks platform independent. Whereas platforms are developed not keeping in mind to support any spefic application development frameworks but to be an interface with the computer and its various applications. I mean, I think so, conceptualy at least.
I will appreciate if any one could educate me with examples.
thanx
Hi KB,
Can you give at-least 2 examples of each (platform & framework) with best of your understanding of both?
It should help to take this dialog further.

Hi Vinayak,
Yup...say for example J2EE or .Net are platforms (at least we say it) whereas ROR is a framework, or Apollo is a framework.
Even any O/s is a platform right? then advise me what makes them different from J2EE/.Net?
Thanks
Karabi
